Cooking Creeden

Sixth grade student council members worked with Dr. Creeden in creating healthy and tasty treats such as lettuce wraps and baked sweet potato fries for a taste testing.  The goal would be to include this type of healthy treat in our lunch options.  Director of Finance, Steve Greenberg stopped by for a taste as did Middleton Police officer Tom McParland. The unanimous opinion was that they were delicious!

Preschool Bunny Jugs

Mrs. Rubchinuk’s preschool students recycled clean milk gallon jugs into Bunny Jugs! They will use them to carry home a special Spring gift for their parents.

The Piantedosi family loaned newly hatched chicks to Mrs. Rubchinuk’s classroom to provide a real experience connection to the unit on eggs.  Some interesting discussions followed the reading of “Are You My Mother?”  What creatures do hatch from eggs, did you hatch from an egg?

Sixth grade hosted the first annual pasta dinner to benefit the sixth grade end of year activities.Almost 200 people were served delicious pasta, meatball, salad and bread.  Thank you to Petrillos for providing delicious sauce and meatballs.  Entertainment was provided by the Howe Manning Jazz band and guests were treated to a small preview of our upcoming Musical, The Music Man.  Student council members served water and cookies to guests at their tables.  This was a great family event.  Thank you to Keira Clemenzi and Matt Pascucci for their work in organizing this great event and to Donna Ruccolo the behind the scenes work as well as serving all night.  Thanks also to the sixth grade team and to Dr. Creeden for running the 50/50 raffle.

Be sure to check out BOKS in action during Friday's (March 8th) Get Moving Night.  Boks will run Tuesday and Thursday mornings, beginning March 19th for Howe-Manning students grades 3-6.  Students below are demonstrating some of the exercises that will be used in the BOKS program.

Peaceful School Bus

During a pilot session of the Peaceful School Bus Program  students from bus 11 worked together in multi age groups to identify what it is like to ride the bus, the good things and the not so good things as well as  what a peaceful school bus would look and sound like.  Student groups generated lists and shared what they thought were the most important entries.   As a ticket to leave children wrote on a piece of paper how they will help their school bus become more peaceful. Thank you to Mrs. Carreiro for planning and hosting this gathering.
