3rd Grade Measurement Olympics

On Monday, June 11th Third grade students put their math skills to the test during the afternoon’s outdoor Measurement Olympics.  Students rotated among various stations and made predictions ranging from the number of inches they could throw a straw to estimating the amount of cubes they could grab in one handful.  Students then examined their predictions by measuring their actual distances and counting the exact cubes and comparing them to their estimates. Not only did the weather cooperate, but students enjoyed investigating estimation, the procedures involved in multiplying, and working collaboratively to solve problems.
