November 6, 2012 Professional Development Day

Staff members attended two half day training sessions today working half the day using IPads and half the day using ActivInspire, an interactive white board program.

Deb Pazdziorny led the IPad workshop.  Staff members created lessons using a variety of Apps including an art symmetry lesson and Brain Pop lessons. The Educreations app was used to record mini tutorials to help students review skills. Teachers evaluated the Pinterest app as a source of ideas for educational/instructional practice. Staff members also shared lessons and apps with colleagues that they have found to be effective teaching tools.

Matt Pascucci, Deirdre Baker and Carrie Windmiller led the ActivInspire Workshop.  Staff members learned the many elements and capabilities of the program and created interactive lessons to support classroom instruction.  Lessons included sorting geometric shapes based on their characteristic which supports our Math in Focus calendar lessons. Teachers created a slide show to introduce poetry terms along with the creation of an interactive sorting game to review key terms.  This sorting game will be linked to a classroom PortaPortal for student use at home.
